Letter from Santa

North Pole

29th December 2011

Greetings from the North Pole! It has been a very busy time of the year and children around the world got their presents on time even though I did stop for the occasional glass of Sherry or two.

Even though I have a very busy schedule I always find time to help out my friends in the Lions Club of Calne with their annual Christmas collection.

Bad weather did not get in the way of collecting a mighty fine £3,700 this year. Every penny of this will be distributed to local causes in the coming year.

Thank you on behalf of the Lions Club of Calne for your generous donations and I will be back on the streets of Calne next December to do it all again!

Remember be good, I have started writing my naughty and nice list already.

My Story – Lion Jo Murray

My family and I moved to Calne in 2004, very soon after moving in we met our first Lion who came to our door and sold us tickets for the annual Duck Race. Then in 2006  we watched the ducks racing down the River Marden and to our amazement we had a winning duck ticket. We went and collected our prize and I got chatting to Les Stiff (Treasurer and Vice President) about the Lions Club – as a fairly new resident of Calne I was eager to meet some new people and get involved with some fundraising….I attended a Business Meeting, helped out with the Santa Collection and got to know the members through social gatherings.

I have now been involved with the Lions for 5 years and have undertaken the running of the Activities Committee and been President. During those 5 years we have raised around £50,000 for good causes and had a lot of laughs and fun along the way. It has introduced me to people from all walks of life and given me some lifelong friends. I am looking forward to the Lantern Parade and Santa Collections this Winter and before that a Club Weekend away.

Sound good to you? Then click http://www.calnelions.org.uk/want-to-know-more and find out more about how you can join this International family of 1.35 million members, a volunteer organization in 206 countries. We share a core belief – community is what we make it.
